Weight

Scooping two dead ducklings
out of the pool filter,
I feel a weight
much heavier than
their few ounces in
my hands.
I have no better
grave for their brown
and yellow bodies
than a plastic bag and trash can.
Their mother has flown
away, while I’m grounded
with her children.
