Volume 36, Issue 1

Note from the Editors

Dear Reader,

This issue of Ignatian marks the first edition that we have had the pleasure of curating and creating for you. In this new incarnation of the magazine in the post-pandemic world, heralded by spring 2022’s Metamorphosis in volume 34, and the shift to our primarily online existence in fall 2022 with volume 35, we are enshrining both the traditions of the past and writing the script for Ignatian’s future. Part of this vision is codifying the biannual publication of digital issues with a print compendium in the spring—this issue is the first of two issues comprising volume 36.

Our gratitude extends beyond words to all those who dedicated their time to the production of this issue of Ignatian. We’d like to thank the Ignatian staff, driven and passionate and ever-willing to work with us as we found our feet as leaders. We’d also like to thank the lovely English Department program assistant, Kimberly Garrett, our kind-hearted and tactful TA advisor, Jess Reincke, and our faculty advisor, Omar F. Miranda, whose resourceful and brilliant support equipped us—and the magazine!—for success.

The works of art published in Ignatian have been global in nature for some time: contributions from both our local USF community and artists around the world, coming together to bring you stories that are timeless in quality and message, but enhanced by the context of our current moment. The stories compiled in this issue share thematic elements that spoke to us when reading them, evoked by the hands of artists in their process of creation. For us, they’ve conjured love, loss, wonder, spirituality, freedom—facets of human existence, often intersectional in nature. We hope you experience the same joy and find similar meaning in these artists’ craft.

Callan Cimino and Audrey Walker, Editors in Chief
